Ultraviolette Automotive is preparing for a much bigger version of India’s electric two-wheeler market. The Bengaluru-based company plans to invest about ₹779 crore in a new manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
The numbers are much larger than its current base
The new plant is expected to begin with annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles and can later scale to 500,000. That is a major step up from Ultraviolette’s existing manufacturing footprint near Bengaluru.
Why build this much capacity now?
Electric scooters and motorcycles are moving beyond early adopters. The next phase is about volume, pricing, service coverage and the ability to manufacture consistently at scale.
Ultraviolette is moving toward a broader market
The company is known for premium performance motorcycles, but upcoming products such as the Tesseract scooter and Shockwave motorcycle push it toward categories with much larger potential volumes.
India’s EV race is becoming an industrial race
Startups are no longer competing only on design, range and acceleration. They also need factories, supply chains, service centres and reliable quality control. Those are expensive capabilities to build.
Exports are part of the plan
Ultraviolette already sells outside India and wants international business to become a larger share of sales over time, making the Hosur plant relevant beyond the domestic market.
Bottom line
A factory capable of eventually producing half a million vehicles a year changes the scale of Ultraviolette’s ambition. The company is preparing for electric two-wheelers to become ordinary transport, not just a premium niche.
