OpenAI is pushing ChatGPT deeper into professional finance. ChatGPT for Financial Services is a tailored ChatGPT Work experience designed initially around investment banking and equity research.
It is not just a generic chatbot with a finance prompt
The product combines GPT-6 Astra with built-in premium financial data, firm-controlled templates and workflows designed for analysts and bankers.
Data access is a core part of the product
OpenAI says built-in data from providers such as Daloopa, PitchBook and LSEG News can support research while providing granular citations so users can trace figures and claims back to source material.
The workflows are recognisably financial
Early use cases include valuation work, LBO modelling, earnings analysis, buyer screening, research and preparation of client materials.
Templates may be more important than they sound
Administrators can make firm-approved Excel, Word and PowerPoint templates available inside the workflow, reducing the gap between research and a usable internal or client deliverable.
Governance still matters
Financial institutions need access controls, retention settings, compliance logs and clear handling of business data. OpenAI says the product builds on enterprise controls and does not use business data to train models by default.
Bottom line
The interesting shift is from general-purpose AI toward industry-specific systems where data, permissions and outputs are designed around the job. Human review remains essential because speed is useful only when the evidence behind an answer can be checked.
