Passengers travelling through the Delhi Division between September 11 and 13 should check their train status before leaving home.
Northern Railway has announced operational changes affecting more than 120 services, including premium and long-distance trains such as Rajdhani, Tejas Rajdhani and Vande Bharat.
What kind of changes are being made?
The affected services do not all face the same disruption.
Railways has announced a mix of cancellations, diversions, rescheduling, regulation, short termination, short origination and terminal changes.
That means a train can still operate while leaving later than usual, skipping part of its normal route or beginning or ending at a different station.
Which major trains are involved?
The list includes several important Rajdhani services connecting New Delhi with cities such as Ranchi, Dibrugarh, Sealdah, Howrah and Bhubaneswar.
Mumbai Tejas Rajdhani, New Delhi-Rajendra Nagar Terminal Tejas Rajdhani, Vande Bharat services and the New Delhi-Howrah Poorva Express are among the prominent trains mentioned in the advisory.
Local commuters are affected too
The disruption is not limited to long-distance passengers.
EMU and other local services in the Delhi area are also affected on different days, which means office commuters and short-distance travellers should check updates rather than assuming only intercity trains are involved.
Why checking the train number matters
Headlines saying “120 trains affected” do not tell a passenger what will happen to a specific journey.
One train may be cancelled, another diverted and another merely delayed. The only reliable approach is to check the exact train number and travel date.
Where should passengers verify?
Northern Railway has advised travellers to use official railway information channels. NTES and the 139 railway enquiry service are useful for checking current running status and schedule changes.
Passengers should verify again close to departure, particularly if their journey involves a connection.
Why a diversion can matter even if the train still runs
A diverted train can skip stations where passengers expected to board or get off. Rescheduling can also break onward connections or change hotel and airport plans.
That is why operational notices matter even when a service has not been fully cancelled.
Bottom line
If you are travelling through Delhi between September 11 and 13, do not rely on the timetable you checked days ago. Use the train number, verify the latest status and confirm the boarding station before starting your journey.
