India and China held Corps Commander-level military talks on two consecutive days in the eastern sector, the Ministry of External Affairs said, amid tensions in the Taksing area of Arunachal Pradesh.
What the MEA confirmed
The Ministry of External Affairs said the first Senior Highest Military Commander-Level Flag Meeting in the eastern sector took place on Sunday and Monday. The meetings were held at Wacha on the Indian side and Damai on the Chinese side, according to the official account reported by The Indian Express.
The timing is significant because the talks came amid continuing tensions in the Taksing area of Upper Subansiri district in Arunachal Pradesh.
Why two consecutive days stand out
Military talks between India and China have been a central mechanism for preventing local incidents from escalating along the Line of Actual Control. A two-day engagement indicates that the sides had enough issues on the table to sustain detailed commander-level discussion rather than a brief ceremonial meeting.
It does not automatically mean a breakthrough was reached. The more important test is whether the meeting leads to changes on the ground, clearer patrol arrangements, disengagement or additional confidence-building steps.
The larger border context
India and China have already held numerous Corps Commander-level meetings in the western sector since the 2020 military standoff in eastern Ladakh. The eastern-sector meeting puts renewed attention on Arunachal Pradesh, where the two countries have long-running differences over the boundary and where local incidents can quickly take on national significance.
New Delhi has consistently maintained that peace and tranquillity along the border are essential for stable bilateral relations. Beijing has also used military and diplomatic channels to manage disputes, even as larger strategic competition continues.
What to watch now
Any official readout describing agreed steps will matter more than speculation around the closed-door discussion. Readers should watch for follow-up flag meetings, patrol changes, statements from the Army or MEA and whether the talks reduce friction in the Taksing area.
With high-level diplomacy also active ahead of the BRICS summit, border management and political engagement are moving in parallel — but they are not the same process.
